Alliance '91 Black Rebels Advance to Region III Finals

Kingwood Alliance Soccer Club’s ’91 Black Rebels U-19 team have won the State Championship and advance to finals in U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship, Region III. With over 3,000,000 youth players nationwide, the U.S. Youth Soccer Association is the largest member of the United States Soccer Federation. Each year USYS Association holds a National Championship Series from the Under 14 through the Under 19 age groups for both boys and girls. Teams in the USYS series must win their respective State Championships to advance to one of four Regional Championships. The four Regional Champions in each age group meet for the National Championship tournament.

The Rebels won the State Championship with a 1-0 victory over the Houstonians Futbol Club to earn a trip to the USYS Region III Championship tournament held this year, June 17-23, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. At the Region III Tournament the Rebels found themselves in what was arguably the Region’s “Group of Death”. Their 4 team bracket included the reigning National Champion, DSC 90 Green from South Carolina. The 8 time Oklahoma State Champions and 2 time Region Champions, Tulsa Soccer Club. And, the Louisiana State Champion, Louisiana Fire of Baton Rouge playing on their home fields.

The Kingwood Alliance Rebels opened bracket play with an upset win over the 2009 National Champions, DSC 90 Green, and went on to win out the bracket with a 3-0 record. The Rebels then defeated Arkansas State Champions, Little Rock FC 91 in the semi-final game before bowing 0-1 to the 2010 North Texas Champions and 2008 National Champions, Andromeda 91 Navy. (Texas is divided into South Texas and North Texas Youth Soccer Associations)

The players are from across the Greater Houston Area including, Sugarland, New Territory, Spring, Kingwood, Pearland, Clear Lake. Christian Cruz was the leading goal scorer in the U-19 age group with 8 goals in five games. The 91 Black Rebels is coached by Steve Webb and trained by Kingwood Alliance Director of Training, Jimmy O’Sullivan.
